 The Majjistral Nature and History Park is a nature reserve in Mellieha, Malta. The area in the northwest of Malta, which includes the coastal area from Golden Bay to Il-Prajjet and ix- Xagħra l-Ħamra, was declared a national park by the Government of Malta in September 2007. The Park was named after the name for Northwest region or wind – ‘majjistral’ – in the Maltese language.

The Xemxija Heritage Trail is a fantastic historical trail in St Paul’s Bay in Malta. Starting near the majestic Xemxija Bay, the Xemxija Heritage Trail passes no less than 20 archaeological attractions! The trail is quite short at around 4km. So, there are a lot of historical sites to see along the way. To help you navigate the route and also appreciate what you’re exploring, we recommend using some form of Xemxija Heritage Trail map. Otherwise, you may pass several sites without even realising.

Can you spot Filfla island?

Located on Malta’s western coast, at 253 metres above sea-level the Dingli Cliffs are the highest part of the Island. The cliffs became a popular attraction for tourists visiting Malta, heading there for a peaceful walk with boasting views of Filfa and the Mediterranean sea.

If you do decide to visit the Dingli cliffs, then one thing that you will quickly realise is that the views are completely breathtaking. You’ll be able to enjoy also stretches of countryside beneath the cliffs with terraced fields, garrigue and rubble wall.

The main attraction of the Dingli Cliffs are the cliffs themselves, however there is also a tiny chapel perched on the very edge, dedicated to St Mary Madgalene. Although any time of day is good to enjoy the cliffs, We recommend going just before sunset to sea the sun magically vanish upon the horizon.

Splitting The North & South Of Malta

Where is Malta’s best walking trail? It surely has to be the epic Victoria Lines Malta hiking route, which stretches from coast to coast, across the north of the main island.

As a walking trail today, it provides stunning views to both the north and south coast from the numerous vantage points high above the valleys on either side. 

The 12km long Victoria Lines Malta trail runs along the top of a natural geographical barrier in Malta known as the Great Fault.

This natural ridge across the island has been used as a defensive barrier for hundreds of years.

The name Victoria Lines comes from the completion of a line of forts and defenses along the route by the British in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

The line was built to protect the towns and harbours to the south from any invasions to the north across the wide-open lowlands.

The palace gardens

The San Anton Garden is located in Attard and is one of the most beautiful gardens in Malta with a large variety of beautiful flowers and plants. This garden has been open to the public since 1882 and it was built by Grand Master Antoine de Paule to complement his summer residence, San Anton Palace, which today is the residence of the Maltese President. The San Anton Gardens are surrounded by walls giving the park a rustic and private atmosphere. It is also home to various animals which have made the gardens their home and freely walk about.

Planted by the knights of malta

Was originally used as hunting grounds for the knights.

Buskett Garden is the only woodland area in Malta and is situated in the lush valley of Wied Il-Luq south of Rabat and east of Dingli.

Buskett Gardens was planted by the Knights of Malta to be used as a hunting ground. Today Buskett is one of the greenest areas in Malta: the gardens are also home to different type of trees such as orange, cactus, Mediterranean pines and cypress trees, bushes, shrubs and flowers. The garden also holds vineyards, olive and lemon groves.

Buskett Gardens can be explored by following the several peaceful pathways around the gardens and is a very popular place for picnics and nature lovers who want to discover the flora and fauna.

Buskett Garden is the greenest from autumn to spring with a lot of wild flowers and natural springs, however in summer the trees offer cooling shade from the hot sun.

Perfect for winter walks

The region known as ‘Chadwick Lakes’ in Malta takes its name from the British engineer who built the water-management dam in this area in 1890: Mr. Osbert Chadwick.​

Situated between Rabat and Mtarfa this oasis of serene fresh water presents a perfect day of walking and trekking. The lakes form a miniature ecosystem which cradle a delicae habitat for various flora and fauna. Water constantly flows eastwards towards Mosta through a series of man-made structures.

When visiting the lakes it’s common to see families setting up picnics or teams organizing incentive activities. Weekends are particularly busy with the Spring and Winter seasons being particularly active as the weather is more clement and the lakes increasingly active (unfortunately the warm Summer months tend to dry-up the lakes)
